iPhone Duo: what does the extra $800 cost per day?
Watch the 104-second film comparing the $800 model-price gap over three years. English captions, a transcript and the calculation’s limits are included.
The 73-cent figure spreads the $800 difference between complete phone models over three years. It is not the price of a hinge or an actual daily charge.
Apple’s US repair estimator did not list iPhone Duo when checked on 10 October 2026. Confirm a current quote before buying. That observation does not establish that no repair price exists anywhere.

Apple’s first folding iPhone starts at $1,999. But the fold itself works out to about 73 cents a day. Here’s the math.
Closed, it’s a 5.4-inch phone, about the size of a passport. Open, it’s a 7.6-inch screen.
Folding screens usually show a crease, and reflections give it away. Apple’s fix is a matte nano-texture finish. It scatters reflections, so the crease shows less.
You can pay it all up front, or $83.29 a month. But 24 payments still add up to the full price. Monthly is a schedule, not a discount.
So divide by days instead. Keep it two years: $2.74 a day. Three years: $1.83. Four: $1.37.
The iPhone 18 Pro, with the same storage, costs $800 less. So the real question is this: is the fold worth $800 to you? Over three years, that’s 73 cents a day.
Unfold it ten times a day, and each opening costs about 7 cents. Once a day, 73. Two numbers are still missing.
One: what it will be worth when you sell it. Nobody knows yet. Two: what the folding screen costs to fix without AppleCare. Apple hasn’t published that.
So before pre-orders open on October 16, ask three things. Will I use the big screen every day? Will I keep it three years or more? Would I still buy it at full price, not split into payments? Don’t price the phone. Price the fold.
