iPhone Duo: what does the extra $800 cost per day?
A monthly payment can make a large purchase feel smaller. Compare the full prices first, then divide the difference by the time you expect to use the phone.
At a glance
In this illustration, an $800 price difference spread over three 365-day years works out at about $0.73 a day. This compares complete models and allocates the initial difference; it is neither a daily bill nor the total ownership cost. Use your actual ownership period and usage when comparing full prices.
$1,999 − $1,199 = $800 · $800 ÷ 1,095 days ≈ $0.73/day

What does the full price difference compare?
The base 256GB US launch prices are $1,999 for iPhone Duo and $1,199 for iPhone 18 Pro. Subtracting gives $800. This compares two complete models, not the price of a hinge or folding-screen component. Cameras and other differences are included in that gap.

How do you calculate 73 cents a day?
Assume three years of ownership and 365 days per year, ignoring leap days. That gives 1,095 days. Divide the $800 model-price gap by 1,095: about $0.7306 a day, rounded to 73 cents. This spreads an up-front price difference across time; it is not a new daily bill.
What the whole phone costs per day
Using the same method, iPhone Duo’s $1,999 purchase price is about $2.74 a day over two years, $1.83 over three, or $1.37 over four. The 18 Pro’s $1,199 price is about $1.09 over three years. Calculate the $800 gap before rounding: subtracting separately rounded daily figures can give a different cent value.
Monthly payments are a schedule
Apple advertises $83.29 a month for 24 months under its eligible 0% APR Apple Card Monthly Installments plan. Multiplying that rounded monthly figure by 24 gives $1,998.96. Apple adjusts the final installment to the remaining price: 23 payments of $83.29 and a final $83.33 total $1,999. The four-cent display-rounding gap is not a discount. Other financing terms may add costs.
Seven cents per opening is another way to frame it
At ten openings every day for those three years, divide $800 by 10,950 openings: about 7.3 cents each. Once per day, it is about 73 cents. These are assumed usage patterns, not measured behavior, durability predictions or charges each time the phone opens.
This is not total ownership cost
The illustration excludes sales tax, cases, AppleCare+, repair costs, trade-in or resale proceeds and financing charges. A resale estimate could reduce the net cost; a repair could increase it. Check current repair terms separately. Neither an uncertain resale value nor an unverified repair price belongs in a precise ownership-cost claim.
Apple’s US repair estimator did not list iPhone Duo when checked on 10 October 2026. Confirm a current quote before buying. That observation does not establish that no repair price exists anywhere.
The decision is about your actual use
Apple lists a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. Its launch announcement schedules pre-orders for 16 October and availability for 23 October 2026. Ask whether you will use the larger screen daily, keep the phone long enough, and still want it when looking at the full purchase price.
